It’s hard to talk about oneself, because it’s easy to fall into one of two extremes: either singing one’s own praises—which smacks of vanity—or painting an unflattering picture, which can also be a sign of vanity. Why is the second option vain, too? Because we all indulge in self-absorption. Whether secretly or openly, we are always focused on ourselves.
